Frequently Asked Questions

How is Marine Phytoplankton 5000 grown?
Our Phytoplankton is grown using reactor technology, which means that it is grown in an enclosed system, in a pharmaceutical grade sterile environment. It is grown in a bed of purified salt water while protected from any outdoor pollutants or contaminants. The end result is an extremely clean, highly concentrated biomass, which is then freeze dried into a very stable powder form. back to top

Open or closed cell wall marine phytoplankton, which is better?
There are companies that claim to have an open cell wall marine phytoplankton. This is a very harmful process to the phytoplankton and can destroy the preserved state of the cell by opening it. A phytoplankton cell wall is, in many ways, like the outer shell of a coconut. The coconut is preserved with a long shelf life as long as the whole coconut is intact. But if you crack open the outer shell then oxidization immediately starts to take place and the preserved state will soon deteriorate, which leaves the product spoiled, unless some other preservative is used to again try to preserve its original state and nutritional quality. It is true that out of the 40,000 plus species of marine phytoplankton that most of them have a hard silica cell wall that is non-digestible for humans. But our (Plankton 5000) marine phytoplankton is not only the most nutrient rich plankton species available, but it is also one with a very soft cell wall which makes it the most suitable for human digestion and absorption. If someone is trying to sell you an “open cell wall” marine phytoplankton, then you should ask that company two questions. (1) What method is use to break open the cell wall of the phytoplankton (because most likely it is an acidic process which in seconds can penetrate through the cell wall and then start dissolving the inner nutrients of the cell as well). (2) What method do they use to preserve the phytoplankton after they destroy the cell wall so that oxidization doesn’t immediately start to take place? back to top

What makes our Marine Phytoplankton so special?
Our scientists in collaboration with researchers in Europe have identified the most nutritious strain of phytoplankton among the 40,000 known strains. Our team exclusively grows this unique strain to provide the best nutrition profile and to ensure consistency in every batch. back to top

How long do I have to take it before I get results?
You may experience results immediately, or it may take longer to experience the results you're hoping to achieve depending on your nutritional needs. It is recommended that you take Phytoplankton for at least a month before you make any conclusions about its nutritional benefits. back to top

Will Phytoplankton interact with any medications?
Marine Phytoplankton is a whole food supplement. It is rich in vitamins, minerals, carotenoids, protein, and essential fats. Since it is a green plant food, it is known to be a source of vitamin K which may theoretically affect the therapeutic properties of blood thinners. If taking blood thinners, use under the guidance of your health care professional. back to top

Why is Marine Phytoplankton so expensive?
Growing Phytoplankton is a highly specialized and a very complex process. A football field's worth of land is required to produce 70 kg in a period of 2-3 months under 24 hour monitoring with state of the art computers and highly trained professionals. Nevertheless, those who supplement with our Marine Phytoplankton find that the value of the nutritional benefits far outweighs the price. back to top

Why select Marine Phytoplankton over other algaes such as chlorella and spirulina?
Marine Phytoplankton is the origin of all plankton. It has pigments that are unique to marine phytoplankton which no other plant material has. It is these pigments that scientists are looking at to find out why they are so beneficial to health. Also, spirulina and chlorella grow in fresh water. Phytoplankton, on the other hand, grows in the ocean and therefore contains an array of minerals and other nutritional elements not found in fresh water algae. back to top

Is Marine Phytoplankton linked with any food allergy, intolerance or sensitivity issues?
No allergic reactions using Plankton 5000 Marine Phytoplankton have ever been reported, it is considered a safe whole food. Here's an interesting fact related to that: "Only seven foods comprise 95 percent of all food allergies, they are: milk, soy, fish, wheat (gluten), eggs, peanuts, and tree nuts." (The Yale Guide to Children's Nutrition, page 186, 1997.) [02.11.25.01] back to top

What is Multi-Strain Marine Phytoplankton?
Not all Phytoplankton is the same. There are over 40,000 known strains of marine phytoplankton, but only few have an exceptionally high nutritional analysis with a soft cell structure suitable for human consumption. Our European researchers have clearly marked the most nutritionally rich plankton strains to date. Each are grown separately and then mixed together, enabling us to provide you with the highest quality Multi-Strain Marine Phytoplankton available on the Market today!

However, due to the strong fish like odor and taste factor, our Multi-Strain Marine Phytoplankton, it is only available in capsules. Our 90 gram bags of marine phytoplankton powder are only single strain plankton, though it is our number one most nutritionally rich “plankton strain”, it is not Multi-Strain. Most of our customers who still love our original single strain plankton have reported back even better results when trying our new multi-Strain marine phytoplankton. It’s a matter of “good, just got better!” and we’re sure you will love it too! But because there are those that can not swallow capsules, we will continue to make our original single plankton strain available for those who need and want the powder form. If you think you can bear the taste of the new Multi-Strain plankton, we suggest you try opening up the capsule and pouring then into your desired drink or shake. back to top

Amino acids are the structural units that make up proteins.
Protein is what your body needs in order to rebuild tissue. Out of the 22 standard amino acids, 8 are called essential amino acids because the human body cannot synthesize them from other compounds at the level needed for normal growth, so they must be obtained from food.

Our Phytoplankton contains 50.41% of proteins and the following chart shows the amino acids. As you can see it contains a total of 16 out of the 22 standard amino acids, of which include all 8 essential amino acids and 2 of the ones that are essential only for children.

* Essential amino acids for humans
** Essential amino acids only for children

Centrifuge ("Proprietary technology")
We are the only Marine Phytoplankton growers that use special Centrifuge ("Proprietary technology") for ocean water and phytoplankton. This is the method used to spin off 100% of the excess ocean water after the phytoplankton is grown before we Freeze Dried the phytoplankton to preserve its quality. With out this method, excess ocean water dries on to the phytoplankton and it then becomes very salty and unhealthy to eat! After Marine Phytoplankton is grown and ready for harvest, it will have the consistency of watery ketchup (but of course green in color) that also has a large percentage of Ocean water still in it. Some companies will freeze dry their plankton in the watery state which also leaves the inorganic salt compounds right of the phytoplankton itself. And, some companies will “Spray Dry” their phytoplankton which is a drying method (much cheaper then Freeze Drying) where they spray the watery phytoplankton through a high powered sprayer up into the air in a 400 degree drying facility (which can also hurt the quality of the plankton with the use of 400 degree heat). This Spray Drying method also dries the inorganic salt compounds on to the phytoplankton making it very unhealthy to eat. Do the simple “taste test” and if your plankton taste salty, then something is wrong! back to top

Grown in REAL Ocean Water
We are the only Marine Phytoplankton Company that uses REAL ocean water to grow our phytoplankton in. To begin with, we have a 500 foot deep Well off the cost of the beautiful Atlantic Ocean that draws fresh ocean water from deep below the ocean surface. This is important because many toxins can float near the ocean surface from ships and mainland chemicals that run off the mainland into the ocean every time it rains. So this provides our first filtration process that purifies the ocean water using nature’s perfect sand from deep below the Earth as a natural filtering system. Next we filter the ocean water with 3 more filtration processes in order to make sure that the ocean water is perfectly clean and in its natural state. Then, we must sterilize the ocean water to make absolutely sure that NOTHING else is liver or growing in the pure clean ocean water, or else something you don’t want in your phytoplankton facility may end up growing in there with the phytoplankton. For instance, Red Tides are a micro organism that is highly toxic to humans, in fact, they are so toxic that shrimp companies are not allowed to harvest shrimp when Red Tides are abundant in the waters, and shrimpers must wait until the ocean current takes them away from the area before harvesting the shrimp. Red Tides can also grow right next to phytoplankton and this is why it is so important to make sure the ocean water you are using is purified, sterilized, and clean from all foreign matter! Now as you can see, some plankton growing companies can save a lot of money simply by adding salt and some fertilizers to regular tap water to grow their phytoplankton in. But then you have “synthetic plankton” NOT “Real Marine Phytoplankton” with all the mineral rich nutrients of the Sea!
